Wombats Dubai Super League (DSL) Cricket
8th October 2016
While a professional photography team of around 15 people waited to welcome Aravinda De Silva, the Guest of honor for the crunch game between Wombats Yellows and Loose Cannons, a very hot and humid afternoon welcomed the guests and the teams in what promised to be a true test of endurance and resolve. This match was a crunch match as both teams had lost their opening encounter of DSL 4th Edition. A pre match pep talk from Aravinda De Silva pumped up the Yellows as they won the toss and elected to bat first.
After a watchful few overs, Vikas started to muscle the bowling around and launched his pulls and cuts in insane manner and helped Yellows reach 93 in 10 overs. However his dismissal saw a the Loose Cannons get in a few quiet overs which helped them pull things back before Munad Akbari scored a quickfire 20 off 10 balls in his characteristic fashion. Things did not look pretty at 164/6 in 20 overs and this is where the pocket dynamite Munazzar blazed his way with a blistering knock of 36 in 26 balls to help Yellows reach 208 at the end of their allotted 25 overs.
The Loose Cannons led by the elegant and stylish Richard Bradstock started off well in their pursuit of making Cannon fodder out of the Yellows, but a dream spell of thunderbolts by Hasnad Bhatti (5-1-14-2) kept them in check and with wickets tumbling the chase was getting tight. At the end of 15 overs, the Cannons stood at 99-3 , needing 110 more to win off 60 balls. Richard continued to score freely but a tight second spell from Wombats overseas founding member Hammad Usmani got the latter his prized wicket. Needing around 10 an over, the Loose Cannons fought valiantly and J Lee put up a brilliant show with his 40 off just 24 balls. However his departure helped the Yellows plug the Cannons and soon they wound up the formalities to seal a 28 run win but not as convincing as they would have liked.
A good hard game of cricket is what we play for, and that;s what both teams got.
