Wombats Yellow lose DSL Cricket opener to Dubai Exiles

Wombats Dubai Super League (DSL) Cricket
2nd October 2016

The kick off game for the DSL had some nervous moments for Wombats yellows with a bunch of guys down with injuries and one of them travelling to be with his family at the birth of his first child (Congrats Umer Chughtai)

The weather was a pleasure for the entire game and Wombats yellows chose to bat first. A couple of early wickets put on the pressure and then a gritty effort by Masam and Vikas put them back on track at 101 in 13 overs. Vikas hit the ball all over the park while Masam played through the consolidator role. Once the partnership broke, Yellows were not able to keep the momentum going and lost 3 quick wickets. The tail wagged and setup a target of 172 for the opposition.

Dubai exiles rocketed to 26 in just 2 overs. Sanity prevailed and Yellows pulled them back to 38-1 in 6 overs. Some unneeded extras and runs leaked in the field allowed exiles to get on top and at halfway mark they were at 109-1 in 13 overs. Seemed to be cruising to victory, Naqi shah spun a web around the batsmen and pulled the equation down to almost run a ball with wickets tumbling at either end. Masam bowled the 24th over with 8 runs needed, conceded 5 and got a victim. Yellows could not defend 3 runs in the last over and Dubai exiles came out the deserved winners.

Yellows will now run back to the drawing board and have to get their act together to get on par with the other teams.
