Ghanim took to cricket when growing up in Karachi, Pakistan. Like every other boy in Pakistan, He was taken up with the Street cricket in his neighborhood. He tried his hands at being a batsman but soon realized that he was a better bowler than a batsman. He started bowling fast and represented many local clubs in the zonal cricket level, playing for their under-14 and under-16 squads. He took a break from cricket as he worked on becoming a career banker. Over a period of time he switched from fast bowling to Spin bowling.
He moved to Dubai in 2014 in pursuit of better prospects in Banking. His cousin Munad Akbari who also plays for Wombats, had already given him insights about the club and its leagues and Ghanim was keen on joining the club and playing for it. In his first season with the club, he took 38 wickets at a strike rate of 17 and was the Leading wicket taker for the 2014-15 season. He was the first Wombat to take a Five for, in the Final of the Wombats Spring Series 2014-15, against Darjeeling CC and helped his Club win the WSS Trophy while also being awarded the Man of the match.
Injuries in 2015-16 kept him away from the game yet he was in the top 5 wicket takers for the season with a tally of 28 wickets with a strike rate of 17 over 29 matches.
A jovial character both on and off the field and a wily off spinner with the ability to deceive the batsmen with his flight and nagging length.
